Character name: Reimu Hakurei
Fandom: Touhou Project
Timeline: post Undefined Fantastic Object
Age: 16 years old

~*Magical*~ abilities and strengths: Shooting magic bullets, flying, slight control of boundaries, and the blessing of the gods. About her flying, it's a pretty extreme ability. She can use it to literally fly right out of reality, making her invincible. Reimu is also AWESOME at any activity she picks up. She becomes an almost instant master despite having no training or experience in whatever she's doing. Reimu also keeps a Yin-Yang orb with her that she can use to bash other people with but it's generally there because she can't gain weight while she's using it. Which means never having to worry about eating too many sweets or drinking too much alcohol.

How would they use their abilities?: Fighting youkai and keeping humans safe. Mostly.

Appearance: Reimu wears a traditional shrine maiden outfit with detached sleeves, colored primarily red and white. Around her neck is a yellow bow. Since she flies around a lot, chest bindings are required so she doesn’t show everything off to the world if she flips into the wrong position. Her dark, brown hair extends past her shoulders and she keeps loose, except for two sections of hair on either side of her face and a ribbon on the top of her head.

Background/Personality:
Lets get this straight. Reimu is in like a bajillion games which have a one liner story. Since no event affected her personality, I'm going to one line these back at you and make up for it in tl;dr personality. I mean, we're talking like 95% of the Touhou games here. Which is every one but like....three or four.

To start off with, Reimu is a shrine maiden. Not surprisingly, the shrine she works is called the Hakurei Shrine, mostly because it belongs to her family. Where her parents are, that's unknown, but hey. She's a teen and she's handling things on her own. Her job as a shrine maiden is to mostly guard the boundary between the real world and Gensokyo but also to solve “incidents”. Incidents are these things that youkai cause and generally cause people in Gensokyo a lot of trouble, intentional or not. So Reimu goes out and beats up the starter of these incidents...and generally everyone else who was in the way.

As for the first game, it looks like Reimu is new on the job. Too bad the story consists of someone destroying her shrine so she goes to destroy them...in a bullet fight. Later on, she discovers spirits and monsters at her shrine so she goes on a quest to end that. In yet another game, after going on a walk, Reimu discovers ruins and a great reward for going into them. Too bad only one person is allowed in so GET READY TO RUMBLE. Of course, after winning, everything isn't as it appears to be so Reimu has to kick more butt. But then, once again, there is some kind of power surge causing a problem so SURPRISE, Reimu goes out to find what's up and beat the butt of the cause.

The king of no stories reigns again and the next game is about venturing into a cave to defeat Shinki because she's causing problems and releasing youkai everywhere. Finally, we start getting SOMETHING as Remilia, the vampire, releases a bunch of red mist which coats a large portion of Gensokyo. Reimu, ever astute, tracks her down and beats her up in the typical Touhou way. Eventually, even though spring is rolling around, the warm weather isn't. SOME NEFARIOUS BEING IS KEEPING SPRING FROM COMING. Reimu sighs again and goes out to defeat Yuyuko and Youmu so spring can be brought back. Then an oni called Suika causes everyone to party and drink forever. Whoops, guess who's job it is to stop this. If you guessed Reimu, great!

Hahaha, bored yet? Only a few more to go. As the game Imperishable Night rolls around, the heroines discover the moon is fake! So they go beat up the culprit, Eirin, and get the real moon back. After that, spring rolls around again but there is way too many flowers growing around. Yep, it's up to Reimu to figure out who isn't doing their job properly and to beat them into shape. Now something new happens. A god tells Reimu that she should close her shrine and Reimu doesn't take too kindly to this. So she goes out of her way to find that god and her shrine and beat the living poo out of everyone there.

Reusing stories? Yep, that happens too. Reimu's shrine gets destroyed, again, by an earthquake. She goes on a rampage to find out who did it and destroys them. Also known as beating them up. With bullets. After that, evil spirits are once again up to no good in Gensokyo. So Reimu heads underground and beats up everyone there for causing problems. IN THE FINAL GAME that I'm taking Reimu from, a flying object appears in the sky and it's apparently loaded with treasure. Reimu wants that treasure bad so she seeks to board the ship and take it. Everything doesn't go as planned and she beats up some people.

OKAY SO PERSONALITY

Out of all the characters in the Touhou games, Reimu is most well known for treating everyone equally, regardless of who they are or what they are. Though, equally doesn’t mean she treats people well. She’s actually a bit brusque and slightly rude, commonly being indifferent to concerns of others. But that’s what makes her endearing to others because she doesn’t antagonize youkai but neither does she consider herself superior to humans. Even though she gets along with nearly everyone, she doesn’t have many friends, with Marisa and Yukari being the closest to her.

She also very carefree and wears her heart on her sleeve. This makes her a rather dangerous person since the majority of other characters are sly or are doing something behind their smiles. If Reimu smiles, she is genuinely happy and is genuinely mad when she scowls. But carefree also carries over into work. She’s a shrine maiden pretty much only in name. The only shrine maiden-like things she does is sit on a veranda and drink tea. Things like working for the betterment of others is simply not considered by her but she does follow most of the rules.

Speaking of working, Reimu doesn’t do it in any large amounts. She’s a firm believer in the fact that hard work does not bring off any better results than little work will do. This leaves her fairly low in skill level all across the board but, compared to some of her closer friends, is actually a bit better at melee combat than them. She doesn’t train or practice in any appreciable amount. She gained all the power she has through innate talent she was born with, cementing her belief that hard work won’t have any real gains. Also to note that her abilities don’t let her gain weight so she doesn’t need to exercise off any big feasts and parties she might take part in.

At the appearance of incidents, however, Reimu is off her butt and using her intuition to solve the problem. She doesn’t do any detective work, preferring to rely on gut instinct, but she completes the tasks with enthusiasm you wouldn’t expect from her normal laziness. It’s unknown as to why she gets so much energy when these incidents roll around but one can assume one of three things and probably not be wrong. She does it to stave away boredom, try to actually get donations out of thankfulness (no one donates to her shrine), or to pick up any “spoils of war” to help fund her sedentary lifestyle. Outside of events and parties, she rarely leaves her shrine , leaving her a bit backwards in terms of some social concepts.

Reimu is also well known for being greedy and constantly poor. Since money doesn't come all that often to her shrine, she sometimes will go to extremes to get some. While those extremes will never involve lots of work, it may involve being unusually kind. It's usually pretty easy to spot when Reimu is getting low on money since she starts becoming less argumentative and more pliable to different ideas outside of her normal conservative lifestyle.

Have you read up on how the game works?: Dat plugin called FlamingFerret. You can earn money through missions, freelance work, or being a lazy bum and mooching (what Reimu would do).

1st person sample:
[Reimu sighed while peering at the camera, her hand rubbing her head.]

We've got a problem here. That problem is a lack of faith or something which is causing me to have a lack money. You know, donate to the shrine and the gods repay your kindness. It's a give and take thing that all the gods out there just love and do all the time.

Unfortunately, there's not enough giving out there. The gods are always eager to help but you know....money makes the world go 'round.

The solution is pretty easy. Donate to the Hakurei Shrine. Then I can do my job and pay for all the alcohol I need. Even Shrine Maidens have to eat and it doesn't matter if we're in space or not.

3rd person sample:
The shrine maiden munched on a burger, to the dismay of everyone around her. Working as a fast food cashier probably wasn't a bad choice in terms of jobs. All she had to do was punch orders into a weird machine and then eat whatever she wanted that came her way. Or so she thought. That might have been the reason why everyone was looking at her weird and why there was a line as long as the Yazoo River.

When a manager person ran up to her and started yelling, Reimu started focusing on her burger more. Pretending like you were listening was also a big part of this job. Until the guy bodily threw her out the door.

“Ow, hey!” She rubbed her now sore bum while glaring the manager down. She wanted to yell more but he had already slammed the door shut, ending any chance of retaliation. “Sheesh, you could at least say what was wrong.” Reimu ended up grumbling to herself on how she was only told to take orders then take the food.

Tch, all that work and still no paycheck either. How the hell was she supposed to get her hands on booze this time around? Donations weren't cutting it and probably never would. Maybe she would get lucky and Yukari or Marisa would feel sorry for her. Yeah....no, that wouldn't ever happen. The miko stomped off, already dreading how she was going to have to ration her food and drinks.
